Retired police dog gets emotional after reuniting with handler she hasn’t seen in years

K9s are incredible dogs. They not only give a vital service to police agencies, but they also leave a lasting effect on their fellow officers, forging an unbreakable friendship. The touching video was released by the Xichuan Police Department on a Chinese social networking site. Wangwang, an 8-year-old German shepherd, worked as a sniffer dog for the department until retiring in June 2019, according to the Daily Star.

She missed him a lot — so when the officer decided to pay her a surprise visit after a long time apart, she was overjoyed and ran right to him. The two old friends have a sweet reunion. The officer rubs and pets Wangwang, who appears to be in tears, overwhelmed with joy.

Even though they hadn’t seen each other in a while and had gone their separate ways, this cop and dog were still in love. “Wangwang’s hair is becoming white, but she is well nourished and plump,” the original video stated.

While many K9s and other working dogs live with their owners after retirement, allowing them to enjoy their golden years with someone they know and trust, the Xichuan Police Department claims that its officers do not have the time to care for retired canines, so they are cared for by a family.

It’s unfortunate that these two had to part ways after building what appears to be a deep friendship on the job, but based on Wangwang’s face, we’re sure this wasn’t the officer’s final visit to his old friend.
