Woman Adopts 75 Dogs To Save Them From Scheduled “Mercy Killing”

Cher Herrera had no idea she would end up adopting 75 dogs scheduled to be killed when she visited her local animal shelter.

She had been looking for a stray dog her family was feeding and figured finding him at the local shelter. Although she did not find him, what she did find was 75 hopeless dogs begging with their tails to be rescued from their impending fate. After finding out that they would be killed in a few days, she decided to adopt all of them. She ended up using her paycheck to pay for the dogs.

”[I] saw these dogs crying and looking at me like [they were] asking for help,” Herrera told iHeartDogs. “I asked the staff and [they] told me they were going to kill them that coming Friday.”

Herrera wrote on Facebook about the dogs and her post went viral. Since then, she has helped most of the dogs find family and trauma treatment.

“I really want to save all dogs from the pound and see if they have family, or look for people that can adopt them,” she said. “I also want to make some program to educate people how to properly take care of their dogs.”
